My train trip from Bucharest to Chisinau took an astonishing 15.5 hours to cover just 250 miles. It was quite the journey experience. Several hours of the trip were spent at the bird whilst passports were checked by both border controls and where the carriage wheels were changed. The reason for this change is that Romanian railways operate on the standard gauge whilst Moldovan railways operate on the Russian gauge.
